Justice the Rupiah, Mchenga way
The complicity, the manipulation, the deceit that has taken place over the acquittal of Frederick Chiluba by magistrate Jones Chinyama and the consequent withdrawal of the state's appeal in this matter by Director of Public Prosecutions Chalwe Mchenga is clear for all to see. It is justice the Chinyama way; justice the Mchenga way; and it's justice the Rupiah Banda way. But what type of justice is this? Ultimatum Given to Cellular Company
THE 48-hour ultimatum given by the Communications Authority of Zambia (CAZ) to Zain Zambia to resolve cellular phone network problems is welcome. The two-day time frame in which the cellular phone company is required to put its house in order should be a wake-up call to all other utilities and services providers.Every service that is provided to the end user,as is the case withphysical goods, comes at a price which the end user is obliged to pay for. In other words, it is a commercia ltransaction in which money is exchanged for the services rendered. This implicitly infers contractual obligations on both parties.Wheresuch a service is of such poor quality that the end use rhas partial or no access at all,it becomes an ... Michael Jackson's Death: The Talent and the Tragedy
The tragedy of Michael Jackson's death at age 50, reportedly from cardiac arrest, pales in comparison to the tragedy of his life. To understand all that Jackson had and lost requires wiping away three decades of plastic surgeries that deformed him, erratic behavior that made his name synonymous with the warping powers of fame, and a 2005 trial for sexually abusing a child that, even though he was spared of any finding of wrongdoing, made him a pariah to all but the most brainwashed of fans. But if you can forgive or forget all that, underneath was one of the most talented entertainers of the 20th century. Quincy Jones, who produced Jackson's quintessential solo albums, was devastated by the news of his passing. ... Article Continues

Dambisa Moyo's Viewpoint
MOST people in the west, in their blogs, have often attacked Dambisa Moyo personally and not professionally. But clearly, she is not interested in personal attacks. This, she revealed on her recent visit to Zambia, where she held two public talks at the Ridgeway Sun and the Pamodzi Hotel.A member of the audience questioned her thoughts on aid when she does not live in Africa. Her response? "Next question." And that is typical of Dambisa. Indeed colouring criticism with personal attacks is a tried and tested way of side-stepping the issues and providing a smoke screen when faced with a valid argument.Jeffrey Sachs used this tactic recently in one of his postings. In responding to her former lecturer at Harvard, she ... Article Continues
