I can't sack Kunda - RB

President Rupiah Banda says he cannot fire Vice President, George Kunda and Director of Public Prosecutions, Chalwe Mchenga, over the acquittal of former President Frederick Chiluba.

President Banda told Journalists at the Lusaka International airport on arrival from Libya on Wednesday that the two had nothing to do with the acquittal.

President Banda was reacting to a story in Tuesday's edition of the Post Newspaper.

The Newspaper quoted PF leader Michael Sata as saying the Vice President and the DPP should be fired because they played a role in Dr.Chiluba's acquittal.

President Banda said Mr. Sata should realize that he is not the President of Zambia and that he cannot instruct government to ddismiss officials on baseless grounds.

President Banda said the PF leader should also learn to use proper channels when communicating with government.

Mr. Banda also said the MMD National Executive Committee-NEC- will soon meet to decide on calls to postpone the party convention.

Mr. Banda said the final decision on the subject will be made public.

President Banda said petitions from MMD members in some provinces urging the party to reschedule its convention were made in his absence.

MMD Chairman Michael Mabenga said recently that almost all provinces have petitioned the NEC to postpone the MMD convention to a date after the 2011 general polls.
